"I am sure children are alive today because CASA brought to our attention issues not addressed elsewhere." - Judge Michael J. Valentine -
WHO ARE CASA VOLUNTEERS?
-
CASA volunteers are at least 21 years old, love working with children, and are able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, while advocating on behalf of children. CASA volunteers are extrordinary citizens recruited to work alongside attorneys and social workers to represent the best interests of the children they serve.
-
Volunteers are selected on the basis of their objectivity, competence, and dedication. Successful CASA volunteers are willing to make an extended commimtent to the organization; individuals who seek to gain exposure to the human services or legal fields for professional reasons are discouraged from applying.
-
Once accepted, volunteers are trained by Fairfax CASA. In training, volunteers learn about legal requirements, the social service and juvenile court systems, and the special needs of children who have been neglected and abused.
